Code of conduct

How we treat each other

An open standard is built by people. This code sets the behaviour expected of everyone who takes part in the F-ACT community — implementers, reviewers, signatories and contributors — so participation stays open, safe and productive for all.

Our pledge

We pledge to make participation in the F-ACT community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation. We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive and healthy community.

Behaviour we expect

  • Being considerate, welcoming and respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences.
  • Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback on the merits.
  • Focusing on what is best for the standard and the community that relies on it.
  • Showing empathy and courtesy towards other community members.
  • Taking responsibility for mistakes, apologising to those affected, and learning from them.

Behaviour we will not accept

  • Harassment, intimidation or discrimination in any form.
  • Insulting, demeaning or personal attacks, and sustained disruption of discussion.
  • Sexualised language or imagery, or unwelcome sexual attention.
  • Publishing others’ private information without explicit permission.
  • Using participation in the standard to gain an unfair commercial advantage over other participants.

Where this applies

This code applies within all community spaces — reviews, discussions, proposals, events and any channel run in the name of the standard — and also when an individual is officially representing the community in public. It applies equally to everyone, with no exception for seniority, sponsorship or commercial standing.

Reporting and enforcement

Instances of unacceptable behaviour may be reported confidentially to the Foundation through the contact page. Every report is reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly, and the privacy and security of the reporter is respected.

Honest note on where this stands: until the Open Conformance Foundation has legal personality — its founding charter is scheduled to be signed on 5 September 2026 — reports are handled by Society OS Pty Ltd as current steward. A standing conduct process will be formalised as the Foundation and coalition are established.

Attribution

This code of conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, the code of conduct used by thousands of open projects and standards communities.
